Serene scene of stepping stones leading to calm water

Counselling

Some people come into counselling with a very clear sense of what they need. Others may have a sense that something is wrong but they don’t quite know the way forward. I offer a supportive, non-judgemental service which will allow you to find clarity, gain new insights and work through your concerns.

Counselling and therapy look different for everyone: some people find 1 -2 sessions is just what they need, whilst others may find longer term support more helpful. A first session can be a great way to meet me and decide whether the way I work is a good fit for you. Making contact through a phone call, text or the contact page can also provide you with an opportunity to ask any questions about my approach and my experience.

Counselling for individuals and couples

River Counselling provides a professional, skilled service for a wide range of concerns. People aged 15 years and older are welcome to access counselling. Counselling is available in person, online or via telephone.

Mental health

People may seek support when they have a diagnosed mental illness, or you simply may be finding one or more aspects of life particularly challenging or overwhelming.

Family and domestic violence

Support for current or historical experiences of violence in relationships. Counselling is available for people who have experienced/are experiencing violence; as well as for those who have used violence against others.

Grief and loss

People experience grief in response to many things, not just the death of a loved one. Grief often shows up during times of change or transition; relationship difficulties; or as part of other life challenges, such as being a carer.

Trauma

Counselling can assist with managing the impact of trauma experienced in childhood or as an adult.

Relationship counselling

Couples may seek counselling to address concerns such as managing conflict, communication or recovering after an affair. Counselling may also be helpful in managing the impact that trauma, stress, disabilty or mental illness has on the relationship.

Religious trauma

Managing the impact of harm which has involved the use of religion/spirituality. This includes conversion ideology and practices (sometimes referred to as “conversion therapy”).

The duration for individual or relationship counselling is generally 50-60min.
A 90min extended relationship counselling session is by negotiation.
